Help Save Our Earth!

Posted: April 20, 2015

Dear Families of K-8;                                                                             Good afternoon! As Wednesday is Earth Day, we are planning a few events for this day. We know that EVERY day is Earth Day, yet we would like to focus on especially “Being Green” on this day. We would like to incorporate a Litterless Lunch on Wednesday…meaning that we should not have any garbage on this day! We could have a thermos, Tupperware, plastic cutlery that can be taken home and washed, etc. Even our snacks may be litterless! Let’s try our best to help the earth on this day…if you choose to do this every day, this would be awesome! We would like to attempt a Wireless Wednesday on Earth Day, also…or, as close to this as possible! This would mean less time (or none at all!?!) on the computer, video games, watching television, using cell phones, etc! We recognize this is more difficult in this day and age, however, let’s all try our best! We can even turn out half of the lights in our classrooms at school, turn off the Smartboard when not in use, etc. We actually, do a great job of this, already! At home, we could play board games (even make it a Family Games Night!), enjoy the fresh spring air by playing or walking outside (it sounds like an umbrella may be needed!), or go for a bike ride, just to name a few! Kindergarten to Grade Three would like to have a Recycled Art Show on Monday, April 27, 2015, if possible! If they want to make a bird feeder from a milk or juice container; can for a pencil or crayon holder; boxes for art work; or any other ideas you may have, we will have time to present these in class! On another note, students will continue to be able to purchase healthy, Fruit Smoothies for $1.00 on Mondays and Fridays! Happy Earth Day, everyone! Yours in Education, Miramichi Rural Staff
