FLORA (French Language Opportunities in Rural Areas)

Posted: May 18, 2017

Dear Families,

Earlier today, Finance Minister, Cathy Rogers announced that 4 schools in the province had been selected to participate in a French Language pilot project.  We are happy to announce that Miramichi Rural is one of those schools selected, along with Campobello Island Consolidated School, Doaktown Elementary School and Riverside Consolidated School.

The goal of the project is to improve access to French learning in rural schools that do not have the numbers to support French Immersion.  Currently, our students are exposed to French culture with a focus on language and culture for approximately 30 minutes per week.  The pilot project is expected to extend opportunities for students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 to learn to speak, read and write in French for a minimum of 15 minutes per day.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
