On Friday, May 20th at 12:30 the students and staff of Miramichi Rural will participate in an In motion Walkathon at the school. This event will raise awareness of the Roots of Empathy program and help provide funds for the training of community volunteers as instructors. The mission of Roots of Empathy is to build caring, peaceful and civil societies, child by child,  through the development of empathy in children. Children who have empathy are less likely to bully others and are more likely to be nice to people.

At 7am on Thursday, May 19th PBS Science Correspondent Miles O'Brien Hosted a live interview with astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Three weeks ago students from the grade 6/7 class submitted video questions with hopes that one of their videos may be picked out of the 1850 videos submitted from all over the world. They calculated that they had less than a 1% chance of being chosen but kept their hopes up anyway. Against all odds Spencer Kelly's video was the first video asked live on PBS this morning to astronaut Mark Kelly!
