Literacy 6/7
Today we started our September Newsletter (which will be going out this week). Students were put in groups and ask to write as a group on their different topics. We started making the layout and putting in our information. We also spent some time reading Ch. 3 of The City of Ember; having another great discussion/question session.

Literacy 8

Students were given a Topic of Interest to spark their discussions. We then moved on to finihsing up their Business Proposals. We finished the class with reading a big from Chapter 5, with a little but of discussion.

Math 1

The students were starting to move into learning about number recognition, counting forwards and backawrds from/to 20. They also spent some time reviewing patterns. 

Social Studies 6/7

Students spent some time today go over terms for their activity tomorrow morning (Blanket Activity). This sparked a tonne of great questions/discussion about First Nations.

The middle school students will be participating in a Blanket activty put on by Matthew Sweezy and Elizabeth Price (and an Elder). They will be completing this activity at the school in the morning.

Literacy 6/7 

Today we had a great discussion about treating people, guests, with respect and how it's not easy to get up in front of people to talk. We also read half of Chapter 3 and had some really great conversations about what might happen to the characters.

Literacy 8

We started off the class with a mini-discussion on a news article about senior drivers and some of the reasons why they should or shouldn't be driving. The students were very mature and had some really great points! we then moved into catching up on some chapter questions, business proposals and corrections fo their questions.

Math 1

The kids were so excited today because OSMO came out to play! They were showing what they know with number recognition! Everyone was great at their stations, working hard on patterns!

Social Studies 6/7

We spent the first 30 mins paying contributions to the Terry Fox walk. Students were great walking around. When we came in, we went through a powerpoint on Residentital Schools and why they were wearing an Orange Shirt.

P.S. Everyone is so excited about the catpult challenge tomorrow. I hope to see lot's of faces!!!
Students were also sent home with two letters (one for the calendar of events and one on a contest!)

Literacy 6/7/8
Today students in grade 6-7-8 were working in teams to design and create a catapult for the Pumpkin FLing on Saturday at 1:00. They were working hard on trying to solve some issues that came up and how to create a postive environment while there (top secret stuff--everyone encouraged to come out and see what they've been working on!)

Students were sent home at 11:30 because of a Professional Learning afternoon for Teachers.

Literacy 6/7

Today students were working on their stamina and started off with reading for 20 mins! They did super. We hten finsihed chapter 2 of The City of Ember. They practiced answering some comprehension and higher level questions to think outside hte box. 

Literacy 8

Students worked small groups, working on communication and group skills for hte catapult challenge. They were on task and super involved!

Math 1

Grade 1 were working hard on their stamina for 10 mins. They made patterns and practiced their math facts with number lines. Students were always showing what they remembered from leaning core patterns and worked great on it!

Social Studies 6/7

We started off hte class reading out novel "Fatty Legs" about residential schools. We hten moved to creating and discussing hte importance of totem poles in First Nation culture. Stay tuned for pictures of their displays!

Tech 6/7

Students were eager to continue working on their green screen projects and put some final touches on them before we get ready to start shooting them!

Grade 6/7 Literacy

Today in language arts, students participated in a discussion about the New York Maker Faire that Ms. Breau experienced and some of the ideas that could be implemented in class. We did a read aloud on Chapter 2 of The City of Ember. The students always have great questions and theories while reading!

Grade 8 Literacy

Today the grade 8s were introduced to hot topics. They'll be played a video or pull a topic from a hat, where they have to say one thing they think, feel or have a commeant about, in order to spark discussions! They also did a read aloud of The Giver Chapter 4.

Grade 1 Math

The grade 1s have been practicing their new M.A.T.H routine and working super hard at patterns. they were introduced to core patterns and they got their first math sheet of hte year for homework!

Grade 6/7 Social Studies

Grade 6/7 have been given a project on different cultures, where they research what it's like in a different country, and in the end becoming a mini teacher for the project. They are doing very well with it and having lots of fun exploring cultures and applying some of their technology skills!

Grade 6/7 Physical Education

Ms. Walsh took the students outside today because it was such a nice day! They always look forward to gym for an hour on Mondays!
