I have set the class up with a Dreambox Canada math account.  It is a program that helps students practice all aspects of Math, in addition to numbers.  If you would like to access this program, please use the following information.  This is an option for students who would like to access this program.  Parents are also able tp set up a parent account free for 90 days.  For iPads and tablets, there is a Dreambox App.

Each student has their own login.  If you would like your child's login information, please email me at kendra.mclean@nbed.nb.ca.  Otherwise, I will be giving you all another call home soon anyway.   See you online, miss you in person.

Welcome Families to Home Learning.  A few notes...

1. The assigned homelearning is a guideline.  This is a flexible schedule students can work through for the week.  The activities are suggestions for learning based on their grade level.

2.  The province is suggesting that Grades 3/4 students do approximately 5 hours per week.  On a daily schedule it is about 30 minutes of Literacy and 30 minutes of Math.  Reading is just great to do, every day.  It will help in all subject areas and functional life skills in the future...personal finance, jobs, instructions, math, literacy, social studies, science...read, read, read.

3. Home learning is a work in progress for everyone.  There are all kinds of learning.  Now that the nice weather is coming, learning can be outside.  If you have any great ideas for activities that you would like to share with your classmates, please send them along to me.  We know that many families are still working.  Do the best you can do...that's all any of us can do at this time.

4.  There will be hiccups as this is new for everyone.  Children are not meant to learn alone.  Make any of it as interactive as possible whether it's online with a friend or with a family member in the house, or both!  Please don't hesitate to email me at kendra.mclean@nbed.nb.ca with questions or good news.  I'd love to answer your questions and see what you've been up to.

See you online but miss you in person.  Stay tuned...

Readworks.org

Families, I have created a class roster on a free reading site called Readworks.org.  There are two classes; a grade 3 class and a grade 4 class.  You will need a class code and a password.  All passwords are "1234".  The class code for each grade is as follows:

Grade 3: GBJ5MV

Grade 4: 572TM6

Please write these class codes down in an easy-to-find place.  I will also upload a document of instructions.  I have already assigned some stories to students.  Sometimes the stories are chosen at an easier grade level so students can get used to the program.  Some stories are chosen for content, not grade level, because they satisfy certain topics that are suitable for Science and Social Studies.  If you have access to the internet, this is a great way to keep students reading.  On some stories, you will also notice a "play" button as some stories have audio.  If you have questions, email me at kendra.mclean@nbed.nb.ca.  Each student should be able to access their own names once they put the class code and password (1234) in and login as students.

I am really looking foreward to working with the Grade 3s and 4s this year. So far they are a great group, with lots of positive energy, curiousity and fun.  Channeling that great energy into learning will be my pleasure.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call the school at 228-2000 or email me at kendra.mclean@nbed.nb.ca.

Homework:

Homework will be assigned on Monday and returned on Fridays.  There will be little or no homework on weekends.  Children are required to read everyday at home and review, game or practice their math facts.  Play with them, study them or sing them, as long as you practice them.  Please sign your child's agenda Monday through to Friday and you may also use their agenda for notes, excuses for absences or another mode of communication.

Thanks for trusting me with your children.  You know them best so you are the best resource to help me help them.

Grade 7 Field Trip Update

We do not have anyone to haul our trailer of bicycles so we have settled on a Plan B for the field trip.  We will be meeting the bikes at French Fort Cove and biking on the course there that the District used for mountain bike racing.    We are leaving the school at 8:30 a.m. and returning for 1:30 p.m.

A reminder to students that helmets are required and will be provided for those without.   Other items that will help them enjoy the day are:

1.      Bug spray

2.      Sunscreen

3.      Water bottle

4.      Comfortable footwear for biking (no sandals, etc)

5.      Long sleeves (woods)

Students are to bring a bagged lunch OR money as we will stop at MacDonald’s on the way home for those who wish to purchase.
