- Read and Log - Start good copy of french assignment - Grade 6 Math: pg. 114 Quest. 2-7 - Consent forms for olympic torch relay - Career contest forms - Alien life form contest Due next Friday   Today the grade 6 students were working on writing decimals in standard form (ex: 234 tenths = 23.4). Grade 7's began comparing and ordering fractions and decimals and will continue this work on Monday. In Social Studies we finished our unit on World Issues by discussing the final stage of Genocide: denial.

- Read and log - Journal due Thursday - Book orders due Thursday - Sign tests - Career contest (due tomorrow morning)   In math today the grade 6's worked on different ways to write large numbers using decimals (ex: 2.5 million = 2,500,000 = 2 1/2 million). The grade 7's are learning how to convert factions to decimals and vice versa. This is a great website to help with these skills: http://www.decimalsquares.com/dsGames/

- Read and Log - Math Test (Long Division and Long multiplication) - Posters for the Legion Contest are due Monday   Today in Math students continued their review of long multiplication and long division in preparation for the test tomorrow. We are beginning to wrap up our World Issues topic of Genocide in Social Studies. Next week we will shift from world issues and come closer to home with our new unit on Canadian Studies.

- Read and Log - Study for mental math test (Thursday) - Math Test on long division and long multiplication Friday - Grade 7's sign math test - Posters for legion (due Monday)   Miramichi rural hosted another successful remembrance day ceremony today. Students participated in a wide variety of functions from greeters, to those who set up the gym, to the cleaning crew, to speakers. Great work!

- Read and log - Finish math worksheet - Study all mental math strategies - Finish french research   A reminder of the Remembrance Day ceremony tomorrow at M.R.S. Today in Math grade 6/7 continued to work on long multiplication and long division involving two and three digit numbers. Students seem to be catching on to this concept much better now that they have had a little practice. There will be a short test on these two operations on Friday. In Social Studies students are designing Remembrance Day posters for the Royal Canadian Legion poster contest. These posters will be on display tomorrow during the ceremony.

- Sign Social Studies test - Sign Report card envelope and return   Today in Social Studies we continued  our study of the world issues topic of Genocide by looking at the 3rd stage (dehuminization). We explored how this stage played out in Rwanda and related back to the book "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". A reminder of H1N1 vaccinations which will take place tomorrow. Students who have been absent should refer to this site each day to find out what they have for home work and try to stay caught up on the work they missed.

- Read and Log - Study Mental Math            - Grade 7: strategy 16-17            - Grade 6: strategy 19   Today the grade 7's wrote a unit assessment on adding and subtracting integers while the grade 6's completed a mid-unit assessment on prime and composite numbers and factoring. In Social Studies class we listened to a presentation given by several students on "Stephen Lewis - The Man You Will Never Forget" and finished watching a film on Ryan Hrjac. Ask your child what this amazing champion of human rights accomplished at such a young age!

- Social Studies take-home test due Monday - Grade 6/7 Math test Monday (Study)                - Grade 6's should be studying how to factor numbers and , write numbers in standard, expanded, and                    exponential form                - Grade 7's should study the strategies for adding and subtracting integers   Today students began studying for for their unit math tests which will be held on Monday. In Social Studies students are working on finishing several different projects.

- Study for any outcomes/mental math tests students have received "NI" on - Work on Social Studies take home assessment (Due Monday) - Math test for grade 6 and 7 on Monday   Today I was absent due to the soccer jamboree. Students were finishing up several difference projects in Social Studies including their "Boy in the Striped Pajamas" movie posters, "Champions of Human Rights" presentations, and take-home unit assessments. In math the grade 7's continued to work on subtracting integers which tends to give some students problems (remember the two tricks!). The grade 6's are working on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing large numbers.
