Good morning 7/8 families!

My class will mainly be using the Teams site this week for home learning. Students are quite familiar with Teams and are able to navigate it with very few issues.  Please have your child log in to the Team site using their username and password they use for their school email. If there are any issues, please do not hesitate to send me an email.

If there are any families who have issues accessint Teams and require paper versions of the work, please let me know and we can make arrangements for that as well.

   Have a great day everyone!

Mrs. Guimond :)

Hello everyone!

Here we are in our final week of home learning before summer break. I do hope you are all still doing well and will keep in touch by email.  I am going to schedule another Skype meeting for later this week so please make sure to check your school email for your invite.

This week, as every other final week, we will be wrapping things up. Here are the assignments for this week:

1. Read 30 minutes daily

2. Grade 7 students, please send me your favorite memory from one or more of our grade 8 students.

Grade 8 students, please send me your favorite memory of MRS or even what you will miss about our school next year. This can be in form of an email, a voice memo or even a video.

3. Write about your experience during this pandemic. What did you feel? How did you pass the time? Who did you keep in touch with over social media or telephone? Include as many details as you wish.

Have a great week Sharks!

  Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather we had last week.

Teachers are back in school this week. It is a strange feeling to be sitting in my classroom without all of you here.  This week, I am   going to be sending you another invitation for a Skype meeting on Thursday. I sure hope that many of you can join in.

This week’s assignments are as follows:

  • Read 30 minutes daily
  • Go to currents4kids.com and complete the “Voyage of the Stodig” article and quizzes
  • Grade 7 students send me an email with your favorite memory of one or two of our grade 8 students.  This can be a funny story, a moment that made you proud or even something you will miss about them. You could choose to write this out, make a short video or even a voice memo.
  • Grade 8 students, send me an email with your favorite memory from your time at MRS.  What will you miss about our school? Do you have any advice for future Sharks? You could choose to write this out, make a short video or even a voice memo.

I can’t wait to hear from all of you this week!

Hello everyone!

I have some exciting news! I have finally created groups to have Skype meetings with you all. An email will be sent this morning with instructions and an invitation for you to join in one of our meetings later this week. If the time I send you does not work for you, please let me know and I will add you to a different group. The instructions for this can also be found in the "Documents" section of this page.

Here are your assignments for this week. Please remember to send me any of your written work.

  1. Read 30 minutes daily
  2. Make sure you check your student email for your username and password for Currents4kids.com in order to complete your reading assignment this week.  The article I would like you to complete this week is : " Back in the Swim"
  3.  I would love to hear your point of view on how would you like to see this school year end? It was cut short so abruptly, write about what you think would be a perfect ending to the year. We cannot have our traditional field trips, award ceremonies, banquets, etc. so what are some of your suggestions?
  4. It looks like the travel within NB will be our only option for a while. Search Tourism NB’s website and choose a place that you would like to visit and write about it. Explain why you chose it, how long it would take to get there and who would you like to travel with.  Personally, I would like to take the girls to Hopewell Rocks. I have been there myself, but the kids have never been there and I think it would be the perfect day trip. It would only take use a couple of hours to get there. It is the perfect way to spend a beautiful summer day and enjoy the great outdoors.
  5. Check your student email more than once this week to make sure you do not miss any information about our Skype meeting. If you do not have access to your student email, please can in touch with me so we can try to repair the situation. Sylvie.Guimond@nbed.nb.ca

Hello everyone!

What an absolutely beautiful week we are having!  I hope you are all continue to do well.  I look forward to talking to all of you later this week!

Thank you for sending me your written assignments. I really enjoy reading each and every one of them. Pleae continue to do so.

Make sure to check your student emails a couple of times a week as I will be sending responses to your work and also some further instructions for some of the assignments.  Here are the assignments for this week:

  1. Read 30 minutes daily. Now that the nice weather has arrived, take your reading outside. I have enjoyed reading on my deck and can't wait to be able to bring my book on the boat once it gets a little warmer.
  2. Pick a page from the book you are reading. Change all of the nouns to things you see right in front of you in your house, then read it aloud. Remember, a noun is a person, a place or a thing. This could be a fun little activity. Take a picture of the page you chose and then a picture of your changes and send them my way. I will share some of the ones I receive with the rest of you.

  3. Billie Ellish said “In the public eye, girls and women with strong perspectives are hated. If you're a girl with an opinion, people just hate you. There are still people who are afraid of successful women, and that's so lame.”  Write a response stating if you agree or disagree with her and explain why. Do some research to support your response.
  4. By the end of today, I will be sending you and email with your username, password and instructions for the new reading site we will be using. It is called "Current 4 Kids".  The articles on this site are canadian and the content is interesting. The username and passwords were randomly generated by the site so some of them are kind of interesting. I am not sure if you will be able to change them or not.

Have a great week everyone!

Hello everyone!

I hope you all continue to do well.  I would like to thank the students who took the time to reply to my letter. I thouroughly enjoyed reading all of them. If you have not yet had the chance to reply, please go back to week 5 notes and reply to the letter I have sent.

This week, I have not assigned any Read Works assignments as I am in the process of changing to a different website. Please make sure to check your student emails this week for instructions and usernames/passwords.

Here are your assignments for this week:

  1. Read 30 minutes daily
  2. Send me some of the writing activities you have completed, pictures of you learning something new or even a video of what you have been doing during this time away from school (be creative)!  I would like to use some of these things to add to my teacher page, it would be nice to see what you have been up to.
  3. Reply to the letter from last week if you have not done so already
  4. Write a review of the book you are currently reading. I would love to hear about what you are reading.
  5. Go back to previous weeks choice boards and select some activities you have not completed yet.  Choose one a day.
  6.  Check your emails later this week for some instructions about our new online reading program and also for instructions about video conferencing that we will start next week.

Hello everyone!

I am a little late posting my assignment this week... sorry.  I have decided not to do a choice board this week. Instead, you will continue with your 30 minutes of reading daily and your Read Works assignments. Instead of a choice board this week, I am asking each and everyone of you to write me a letter and send it to my email. I would like you to write it by hand or type it in Word (feel free to use Office 365). I have written you a letter to show you the format and am looking forward to reading each letter. Please feel free to send me an email at anytime if you have any questions. I look forward to chatting with you later this week.
